State Senator Wendy Davis celebrates with State Senator Jose Rodriguez.

Standing up for what you believe in, no matter how big or small the issue, can always feel risky, but the reward is often worth the fight. Such was the case this week with Texas Senator Wendy Davis, who, during a marathon filibuster in support of women's reproductive rights, stood in front of the Texas State House for 13 hours straight. Davis wore a back brace to help give her the stamina to last through midnight -- and successfully pass the deadline for voting on the bill she had hoped to defeat. Throughout her epic speech, she not only had to continuously talk about only the topic at hand, but was also not allowed to break for food, drink, or even the bathroom, in accordance with Texas' parliamentary rules. How's that for commitment?

Despite harsh words from her critics, Davis proved that with a lot of dedication (and a really solid pair of kicks), she could stand up to anything. The effort she and her supporters put in paid off, too -- eventually, the bill was taken down, and she earned her rightful place as the HBIC of filibustering.
