Honoring Diem: How 'The Challenge' Star's Memory Is Being Kept Alive

In a new poignant interview, Brown's sister Megan talks about her 'other half.'

Diem Brown was known for her unparalleled will to fight -- whether she was exhibiting her grit on countless "Challenge" installments, raising awareness about her multiple cancer battles or voicing her determination to be an advocate for those who needed support through medical hardships. And though it has been almost one year since her death at the age of 34, Diem's tremendous spirit still survives through her loved ones and their mission to make sure her legacy remains at the forefront of a critical conversation about ovarian cancer.

In "Honoring Diem," MTV spoke with Diem's sister, Megan Brown, about their special bond and how she is commemorating her "other half" with the same fighting attitude that the "Fresh Meat" competitor always displayed. But before explaining her involvement and activism on behalf of Diem, Megan recounted the heartbreaking final moments between the siblings.

"At 8'clock on November 14th, I started heading towards the hospital and I got a text message from one of her friends -- and she said, 'Are you close?'" Megan remembers, while adding that her family was already gathered around Diem's bedside that fall morning.

"When the priest said, 'Megan's here,' she went from breathing very sporadically to a very calm breath. And that's when I think I realized what was happening. I held her hand," she explains, wiping away her tears.

Through her grief, Megan vowed to keep her sister's memory alive and helped support the launch the Congressional caucus Ovarian Cancer National Alliance -- with "Real World" cast member and US Representative Sean Duffy and his wife (fellow "RW" alum) Rachel Campos-Duffy.

"Today is the day we give ovarian cancer a face and a voice," she told the Washington, DC-based group -- which included some familiar MTV faces -- about the silent killer disease and the importance of early detection.
