Could Nicki Minaj Be On Fifth Harmony’s Next Album?

Dinah Jane Hansen teases the girls' next album... which is coming sooner than you thought.

In early 2015, Fifth Harmony showed everyone who’s “BO$$” with one of the most kick-ass albums an all-female group has ever made. Hell, Reflection was one of the best pop albums in recent memory, and it proved Dinah-Jane Hansen, Ally Brooke Hernandez, Camila Cabello, Lauren Jauregui and Normani Kordei have the chops to become the genre's next reigning queens.

That’s a lot to live up to for the girls’ next album, but lest you think they’re primed to suffer a sophomore slump, Hansen has assured us they’re only stepping up their game even more.

In a new interview with SPIN, Hansen spilled some deets about 5H’s next LP, teasing the new batch of tunes as the band’s most “mature” ones yet.

“It’s a side of Fifth Harmony that no one’s really seen,” she said. “In the beginning, we were super happy. Our first album was very jumpy. This time, we’re showing who Fifth Harmony really is behind closed doors.”

Hansen revealed they started recording in early October and have enlisted the services of pop powerhouse producers like Max Martin and Stargate. That means the group is primed for even more pop domination, but Hansen said they’re also playing around with more “reggae-rhythmic” influences.

“We just have smashes, one after the other,” she said. “This lane we’re going with is kind of reggae-rhythmic and kind of urban. It finally includes our ethnicity — I’m Polynesian, we have a black girl, we’ve got Hispanics. We kind of got that island in us, that little flavor in there. We love including that because that’s what we are.”

Martin and Stargate aren’t the only big names attached to this project: Hansen said they’re also eyeing a number of hip-hop collaborators, including J. Cole, Big Sean, Travi$ Scott and Nicki Minaj. The latter choice is an especially intriguing and exciting possibility, given 5H’s track record of making female empowerment-focused anthems. Minaj would only up that factor more, so needless to say, our interests are piqued.

And the best news of all is that it sounds like Fifth Harmony are really chugging away on this new release. Hansen said they expect to release a new single “very very soon,” with the hope of dropping the album in early 2016.

Until then, let’s celebrate Halloween on-theme with the girls’ spooky “I’m In Love With A Monster” vid, shall we?!
