In case you're a Mikaelson sibling on the outs with Klaus whose been sleeping in a basement for 100 years, know this: Nina Dobrev exited "The Vampire Diaries" at the end of its sixth season last spring, meaning that her character, Elena Gilbert, is now comatose for the entire span of Bonnie Bennett's lifetime. This not only means that the focus of the show has shifted to the Salvatore brothers, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder), but that Damon is feeling really, really emo as well.

Just check out the newly released poster, which finds Damon and Stefan staring off into a stormy CG Virginia sky, seemingly lamenting the fact that "heartbreak is eternal":

It's also important to note that the brothers are outside the entrance to Mystic Falls -- does this mean that they'll be driven out of their hometown by the season's villains, the Heretics? You'll have to wait until October 8 to find out, when "TVD" returns with "Day One Of Twenty-Two Thousand, Give Or Take." (An episode that MTV News loved, FWIW.)
