Kanye West's Explanation Of Yeezy Season 2 Reveals Why It Reminds You Of 'Star Wars'

One of the biggest internet critiques of Kanye West's Yeezy Season 2 collection was that it looked like it was ripped straight from the "Star Wars" galaxy. With its muted color palette and its relaxed but still future-forward shape and vibe, it's an apt comparison, and in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Ye explains that he had the future on his mind when creating this collection.

"I think sweatshirts are the way of the future," Kanye told Dirk Standen for Vanity Fair. He knows people just want to wear yoga pants and leggings and t-shirts and sweatshirts, and he's just giving the people what they want but in his own ~Kanye~ way. Kanye is so obsessed with sweatshirts, he had to reiterate it. "Sweatshirts are f--king important," Ye continued after describing the production process for his Yeezy Season 2 sweatshirts. "That might sound like the funniest quote ever. How can you say all this stuff about running for president in 2020 and then say sweatshirts are important? But they are. Just mark my words. Mark my words like Mark Twain." OK, Kanye. Whatever you say.

The interview also reveals an unlikely inspiration for the collection: Nori's play time. "I was just wanting the colors to fit together in this way, like where my daughter takes the four Play-Dohs and starts to blend them all up together," Kanye explained before launching into his ideal plans for a brick-and-mortar Yeezy store. However, those dreams might still be a long way off. "The only concrete plan is that I plan to use concrete," says Ye.

The ultimate goal for Kanye is to create clothing that is indicative of this time we live in but is also timeless, to create clothes that become a fabric of the humans who wear them. "I want the clothes to almost go away, to almost be invisible, to be one with the personality," Kanye elaborates. "You know when you see people’s dogs look like them? I want people’s clothes to look like them."
