Each year there's a group of up-and-comers that MTV dubs the "Artists to Watch." They're the insanely talented, yet slightly under-the-radar acts that are sure to make it big. For FKA Twigs, Fetty Wap, George Ezra, James Bay and Vance Joy, being nominated for the Artist to Watch award at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards is just another step in their journey to stardom.

In the past two years, the ATW category has produced mega artists like Austin Mahone and Fifth Harmony, who were just starting out when they were nominated. We asked this year's nominees how it feels to be nominated for a VMA and what music means to them. Here's what they had to say:

Fetty Wap

"Recently, music made my life better because all the opportunities it brought for my kids, my boys and my squad. Everyone around me is my getaway, they do everything for me musically. It can make you feel sad, sometimes it could make you feel happy -- I make people feel good through my music."

James Bay

"If there wasn't music, in my opinion, life would suck a lot more. Life's pretty great because of a lot of things, but particularly music."

FKA Twigs

"When you're in the studio making music or when you're listening to somebody else's music, it can only really be your interpretation, which I think is really important in terms of who you are."

George Ezra

"Before music became my life, what else do I do? I go to the pub. That's probably about it. I have the best job in the world and it involves music. I consider myself a very lucky boy."

Vance Joy

"Music makes my life better because it gives me something to keep working at. I think it's a lucky thing to have something that's constantly giving you that engagement."
