'Star Wars: Episode IX' Officially Nabs Its Director

Stellar news (literally).

He breathed life into dinosaurs with "Jurassic World," and now Disney has made it official at their D23 fan expo in Anaheim, Calif.: Colin Trevorrow will direct "Star Wars: Episode IX."

Though the film is not set for release until in 2019, Trevorrow's work with LucasFilm starts now. His film will follow J.J. Abrams' "The Force Awakens" and Rian Johnson's as-yet-untitled "Episode VIII."

The news of Trevorrow's hiring is now official after months of rumors and speculation. When "Jurassic World" was released earlier this year, Trevorrow waved off the idea in an interview with MTV News, saying that his next few movies would be "a little bit smaller."

If you ask us, a galaxy far, far away seems pretty big.

“This is not a job or an assignment," Trevorrow said in a release. "It is a seat at a campfire, surrounded by an extraordinary group of storytellers, filmmakers, artists and craftspeople. We’ve been charged with telling new stories for a younger generation because they deserve what we all had -- a mythology to call their own. We will do this by channeling something George Lucas instilled in all of us: boundless creativity, pure invention and hope.”
