Mark Zuckerberg Wants Facebook To Master Virtual Reality Next

3-D friends. Almost like IRL.

If Mark Zuckerberg has his way, you'll be getting really friendly with your associates on Facebook in the near future. You might want to go ahead and start combing through your contacts list now, actually.

Per Variety, Zuckerberg has announced his intention to lead the social networking site to a whole new level of interactions: virtual reality. The Facebook pioneer said that he thinks "immersive 3-D content is the obvious next thing after video."

Which means "Demolition Man" is virtually a reality now (see what we did there?).

Zuckerberg told investors that the idea of total experiential immersion such as this is not a far-fetched one at all -- as the past decade alone has escalated our web contact from written words to photo and video-based sharing on a global scale. Which means the door is wide open for the next step -- and soon you'll be able to close yours off forever and never interact face-to-face with an individual again (JK, don't actually do that guys).

The Z-man's got his eye on both the video and gaming platforms as options for this virtual reality upgrade, since the company acquired Oculus last year and plans to release the Oculus Rift headset next year. FINALLY, something to replace those dusty Nintendo Virtual Boys!
