Will Ghostwriting Accusations Affect Drake’s Legacy? Slaughterhouse Weigh In

Their opinions aren't what you'd expect.

Every rap fan has an opinion on Drake's alleged use of a ghostwriter, after Meek Mill put him on blast, but some opinions are valued above others.

That applies to Slaughterhouse, since the collective boasts some of the fiercest MCs in the game, but -- surprisingly enough -- Royce 5 9'', Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and Joe Budden were very diplomatic while discussing the controversy.

During a visit to Hot's 97 "Ebro in the Morning" show on Friday, July 24, Slaughterhouse had a very lengthy discussion about Drake and what it would mean if he were using a ghostwriter.

"Being from that cloth where you get your stripes from writing, you do kinda step down a few, in my mind as a fan, if you're not writing," Crooked I said.

"It don't stop the music form being great, it don't stop you from being successful, I don't lose respect for you personally, but just in my comic book hero, rapper baseball card collection, I can't put you [in that conversation]."

But, then he went on to add, "Are people trying to say that Drake's not talented all around because somebody wrote a song? Because that's crazy," and posed the question that most diehard rap fans have been debating, "If you're shooting for the G.O.A.T. list, can someone else write some of your rhymes?"

Joell Ortiz, when asked his opinion on the matter, was on the opposite end of the spectrum.

"I really don't give a f--k. If I enjoy the music, I enjoy the music. That's just my stance," he said, going on to explain that he himself has been in the studio with friends, who will give suggestions while recording. "Whatever makes the record sound better to me."

And Joe Budden and Royce seemed to fall somewhere in the middle. While discussing the alleged reference track for "10 Bands," which features rapper Quentin Miller, Joey put things in perspective.

"The people that hold Drake in pretty high regard as a lyricist, I don’t think they do so because of '10 Bands,'" he said. "If you said he didn’t write 9AM in Dallas, then I’d have a problem."
