11 Ways 'Ant-Man' Is The 'Harry Potter' Of Marvel Movies

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azk-Ant-Man.

What Marvel's "Ant-Man" lacked in Infinity Stones, it made up for in Horcruxes. That's because "Ant-Man" is a "Harry Potter" movie. Behold the evidence:

  1. There's an older generation of heroes…
    Marvel Studios

…long since retired, if not outright dead, that now needs the help of a new generation. Yes, Hank Pym is basically an Albus Dumbledore and Remus Lupin amalgamation.

  2. The new hero is a "chosen one"…
    Marvel

…not by prophecy, but Hank had his eye on Scott for years and years, just as Dumbledore always had his eye on Harry.

  3. The hero is an ex-con…
    Marvel Studios

…not that Harry was, but that gives Scott Lang something in common with Sirius Black.

  4. The hero can disappear…
    Marvel Studios

…albeit with a shrinking suit, as opposed to the Cloak of Invisibility.

  5. The main female character…
    Marvel

…is an extremely capable and talented warrior who can more than handle her own against any adversary the film throws at her. Yep, Hope is pretty much Hermione.

  6. The hero's sidekick is hilarious and easily frightened…
    Marvel

…and he steals the movie every time he's on screen. So, Michael Peña's Luis is the Ron Weasley of "Ant-Man." Luis is our king.

  7. The villain is an insane, bald, greedy mad man…
    Marvel

...who derives most of his power from dark, outside forces. Corey Stoll could have played Voldemort in an alternate universe.

  8. There's a gigantic insect…
    Marvel

…although the giant-sized ant is not nearly as menacing as Aragog.

  9. There's a hugely important bedroom battle…
    Marvel

…although no parents are killed, and no prophecies fulfilled, in "Ant-Man," at least as far as we know.

  10. Remember when Harry died?
    Warner Bros.

He went to King's Cross Station and hung out with Dumbledore, and managed to come back from it intact — just like Scott looked lost forever once he went sub-atomic, but in actuality he went to the Quantum Realm, and was able to get out of it alive.

  11. How about that epilogue?
    Warner Bros.

No, we didn't check in on Future Scott and Future Hope and their new Ant-Baby, Hankbus Pymerus, but we did get a glimpse at their futures: Hope will become a superhero as the new Wasp, and Scott has an upcoming rendezvous with the Avengers to look forward to.
