Tom Hardy And Charlize Theron’s ‘Mad Max’ Stunt Doubles Got Married IRL

The stand-ins for Max and Furiosa quickly fell into an off-screen romance.

The summer sci-fi blockbuster "Mad Max: Fury Road" didn't have much going in the way of romance, but off-camera, love was in the air.

The two stunt workers who doubled for the movie's main characters, Max and Furiosa, quickly felt an electric spark when they met in 2012 for a long, hot shoot in the desert. Dane Grant, who doubled for Tom Hardy's Max, and Dayna Grant, who stood in for Charlize Theron's Furiosa, first started to get to know each other while filming a fight scene between the two main characters.

"While we were punching each other we were falling for each other – quite rapidly," Dane told stuff.co.nz.

Dayna hails from New Zealand, while her husband is South African. They probably never would have met if it weren't for their shared stunt double careers, and now they're married with a 14-month-old son named Ryder.

"Dayna and I had a lot in common with those two characters, meeting for the first time, learning to trust each other under stressful conditions," Dane told the Telegraph. "Pretty much just get on with what you're supposed to while on a mission through the desert with a bunch of weirdly dressed post-apocalyptic characters everywhere you look."
