The 'Avengers' Will Assemble To Honor Robert Downey Jr. At Movie Awards -- And Are Bringing An Exclusive Clip With Them

He's the hero of a Generation!

Everybody's favorite genius playboy billionaire philanthropist, not to mention superhero, is coming to the MTV Movie Awards — and he's bringing some buddies with him.

We're pumped to announce that Robert Downey Jr. is going to be the proud new owner of the Generation Award at this year's Movie Awards.

If you have to ask "Why Robert?," then you must have been living inside a cave toiling away at a highly sophisticated suit of armor for the last seven years. Downey is as responsible as anyone for the Marvel Studios takeover of the superhero scene, his work as Iron Man right at the heart of why The Avengers are some of the mightiest and most recognizable pop culture icons on Earth right now. Need we say more?

Sure, we'll say more, because this next part is cool: RDJ isn't coming to the Movie Awards alone. He's bringing "Avengers: Age of Ultron" cast members Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner with him; they'll be the folks presenting Robert with his brand-new Generation Award. Should we expect some classic Avengers in-fighting? It wouldn't be a Tony Stark party without it!

And if the Avengers assembling on the Movie Awards stage isn't enough on its own, how about the fact that they're all bringing an exclusive 90-second clip from "Age of Ultron" with them — a clip you'll only get to see at the Movie Awards.

"Throughout his career, Robert Downey Jr. has mesmerized audiences by capturing the humanity in larger-than-life characters like Charlie Chaplin, Sherlock Holmes and Tony Stark," said Stephen Friedman, President of MTV via press release. "He’s a brilliant actor and a Hollywood icon, and we are proud to recognize his tremendous passion and talent with this year’s Generation Award."

The MTV Generation Award is the "Movie Awards" highest honor, acknowledging an actor who has engaged the MTV audience throughout their career. Past recipients include Mark Wahlberg, Jamie Foxx, Johnny Depp, Reese Witherspoon, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Sandra Bullock, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey.

In other words, it's not just a good time to be Robert Downey Jr., one of the most important actors of the moment — it's an even better time to be one of his fans.
