Can we talk about how Nick Jonas has been straight-up killin’ it lately? The former Disney kid has totally reinvented himself as a smolderingly sexy pop star, and the world is definitely taking notice.

But, we also want to know more about the man beneath the abs.

In a revealing new interview with Rolling Stone, Nick had a lot to say about his professional role models (Elvis Presley and Justin Timberlake), his fave new music (D’Angelo’s Black Messiah), hanging out with Beyoncé and Jay Z (“relationship goals!”) and whether his opening slot on Iggy Azalea’s tour has inspired him to try rapping (nope).

Nick also opened about the slew of alluring photo shoots that has turned him into a major sex symbol. “It just kind of happened, and now I have a lot of unexpected new fans,” the 22-year-old dished. “It was pretty interesting to watch it all unfold and travel in the way it did. It's resurfacing at the moment, as another male artist [Justin Bieber] has done a photo shoot similar to it. It's one of those things where I'm getting sick of looking at myself like that.”

Say wha?! While just about the entire dude-loving population disagrees with that sentiment, it’s definitely understandable why Nick would feel that way -- he says the stress of keeping his fit bod in check can get annoying.

“I definitely understand the pressure you can feel in that position, and how it can complicate your mental state,” he admitted. “It makes things strange when you reach for one more beer or you want a cheeseburger, and you start thinking how it's going to affect your body. But I'm diabetic, so I have to be health-conscious regardless.”

Nick also responded to his newfound reputation as an icon for the gay community, though he admits he doesn’t like to think of himself that way.

“I don't know if I'd necessarily call myself a gay icon,” he said. “But my goal in the last year was to expand and grow as a person and an artist, and embracing my gay fans was a priority. Some of my gay friends have thanked me for that, and that's a really good feeling.”
