The 7 Freakiest Moments From Movie Awards Season

Jessica Lange has some words for the American freaks at awards shows.

Take it from the reigning queen of TV's scariest sideshow: according to the woman who plays Elsa Mars, the carnival crazies of "American Horror Story" have nothing on modern-day Hollywood during awards season.

Jessica Lange visited "Late Night with Seth Meyers" to talk about her role on AHS, for which she's once again been nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Miniseries or Movie. But Lange, who's been on the shortlist for every major award in the industry multiple times, says that the whole Hollywood awards season isn't just old hat; it also seems to be getting.... freaky.

"It's become a bit of a... well, talk about a freak show," the actress said. "It's become a bit of a freak show!"

For her part, the freakiness Lange seems to be referring to is the egocentric spectacle of actors patting themselves on the back ("Sometimes what happens is you give actors the platform to talk about themselves, which is a huge mistake," she explained), but y'know, she's right: Awards season is totally a freak show. A glorious, glamorous freak show where anything can happen! Below, we've rounded up seven seriously freaky moments that just go to show how weird the next couple months in Hollywood can get.

Angelina Jolie experiences the bromance

This wasn't even the weirdest thing Angelina ever did while in the spotlight, but smooching her brother on the Oscars red carpet and then using her acceptance speech to declare her love for him was, perhaps, just a tad freaky.

Isaac Mizrahi mishandles Scarlett Johannson.

scarjo

Not just freaky, but tacky: For reasons that will remain a mystery, Mizrahi thought it would be a good idea to grope ScarJo's breasts on the 2006 Golden Globes red carpet.

Bjork earns a permanent place atop the Weirdest-Dressed List.

bjork

In a thousand years' worth of awards seasons, no outfit will ever be freakier than Bjork's swan dress at the 2001 Oscars.

Brendan Frasier's applause goes viral.

fraser

This clap alone could be its own freak show act.

Stephen Fry calls Emma Thompson "a stinking offal" at the 2014 BAFTAs.

bafta

Fry is capable of some freakishly colorful (and always good-humored) insults, but this crack about dear, sweet Emma is probably his crowning achievement.

Jennifer Lawrence takes a spill on the stairs.

jlaw

The freakiest thing about J-Law's Oscars falls was the way it made us love her even more.

And finally, there was the time that Bette Midler went HAM on a Golden Globe.

How did Midler handle her big win at the 1980s Globes? Simple: She blew it.
