Fall Out Boy Drop Epic Title And Release Date For Next Record

And you thought 'Centuries' was dramatic.

When Pete Wentz dropped by MTV HQ last week he was very cagey about the release date and title for Fall Out Boy's sixth studio album -- very cagey indeed. In that he claimed to have no idea when the record was coming or what it would be called. As it turns out, those claims turned out to be false, as Fall Out Boy have announced both the title of the disc and the fact that it's coming soon -- extremely soon.

In true modern FOB fashion -- see single "Centuries" -- the album title is appropriately dramatic: American Beauty/American Psycho, named for the depressing movie about sex and obsession and the depressing movie/book about sex, obsession and murder. The title track -- which premiered on BBC Radio 1 with Zane Lowe Monday (November 24) -- will drop on December 8, with the full album coming out on January 20 -- a.k.a. super soon. Why did you lie to us, Pete? Why?

The band announced the coming of the record and track via their Website accompanied by some pretty heavy prose about light breaking through darkness and domesticated animals reverting to their true, dangerous nature, etc, etc. Sample passage: "We have infiltrated you. Now we are inside you like a disease. This is a modern love story -- coming together and unravelling all at once."

According to the release, the band hooked up with French musician SebastiAn on the title track. "From the past he mined some of the future," the band wrote. "The mission is the heart pure and simple as it can be -- distilled but never fragmented or disguised. Through these experiments, that were sometimes lost in translation, we persevered, 'They tried to bury us but they didnt realize we were seeds.'"

As if that weren't obtuse enough, FOB also included a quote from Henry Miller's "Tropic of Cancer" in the announcement: "The cancer of time is eating us away. Our heroes have killed themselves, or are killing themselves. The hero then, is not time, but timelessness."

Looks the battle between David and Goliath, as depicted in the video for "Centuries," is far from over.

In the meantime, Pete did talk to us about Rihanna's Instagram -- so at least we have that while we wait.
