Mae Whitman Is 'The DUFF' In New Movie Trailer: Watch Now

We would like to humbly disagree, but...

Say hello to this new trailer for "The DUFF": a teenage comedy about a supposedly undesirable girl who recruits the popular boy at school to make her beautiful and, therefore, deserving of love and happiness. (Obvious sarcasm is obvious.)

According to the trailer, "DUFF" is an acronym for the "Designated Ugly Fat Friend" in a female social circle. The archives of Urban Dictionary back up this definition, although we would like to side-eye this whole "DUFF" concept because...

Mae Whitman stars in the new flick, alongside Bella Thorne and Robbie Amell. You might be asking yourself, "Her?" And you would be right. Whitman did play George Michael's girlfriend, Ann Veal, on "Arrested Development."

The actress is pretty much the opposite of both "fat" and "ugly," but such is the logic of high school movies. I mean, remember the time Rachael Leigh Cook was played "homely" art student Laney Boggs in "She's All That"?

And anyway, "The DUFF," based on the book by Kody Keplinger, looks pretty damn funny. Look for it in 2015.
