It's been 13 years since Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake showed up to the 2001 American Music Awards dressed head-to-toe in denim, but it has not been forgotten. And while Britney is often imitated though never duplicated, at the VMAs on Sunday night, Katy Perry came pretty damn close.

Alongside her most recent collaborator, Riff Raff, Perry emerged from a Lamborghini onto the 2014 MTV VMA red carpet in an eerily similar all-denim couples get-up that made Britney fans everywhere perk up. Katy had promised a Britney "impression" and she delivered. Although the "Perfume" singer's busy with her Las Vegas residency, she offered Katy her stamp of approval via Twitter, so all you Britney fans can relax!

Last time we caught up with Britney, the denim dress happened to come up in conversation and she explained it's just not something she could ever repeat. So in a way, Katy Perry, we thank you.
