mtvU Fandom Awards: May The Best Fans Win

It's the ultimate pop culture showdown at Comic-Con.

San Diego Comic-Con has always been about the world's most diehard fans, and MTV and mtvU are giving the most dedicated fandoms a chance to prove themselves in front of the world.

The mtvU Fandom Awards will pit pop culture's biggest fan bases, like "Game of Thrones," "Teen Wolf" and "The Hunger Games," against each other to find out who can call themselves Fandom of the Year.

The fan-voted award show will take place at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24 inside Petco Park, a few days before MTV and mtvU air an hour-long special dedicated to the fanboys and fangirls of the world, featuring Linkin Park.

But the festivities have already kicked off at FandomAwards.MTV.com. That's where you'll be able to vote in categories like Breakout Fandom of the Year and 'Ship of the Year.

What was more shocking? The Purple Wedding or the "How I Met Your Mother" finale? Was it a bigger deal that the "Veronica Mars" movie got made or that "Community" was able to come back with creator Dan Harmon? You'll get to decide for the mtvU Fandom Awards.

However, the biggest prize of them all -- Fandom of the Year -- will be decided by a tournament-style bracket, starting off in four different genres: Movies, TV Dramas, TV Comedies and Animation.

From there, the biggest fan groups will faceoff one-by-one until a champion is crowned at Comic-Con.

"From the 2014 Movie Awards to the first-ever 'mtvU Fandom Awards,' we are always thrilled to partner with MTV to deliver creative content-driven campaigns that focus on the fans," said Sima Sistani, Director of Media at Tumblr. "There is nothing we love more than celebrating the vibrant and incredibly engaging creators on Tumblr and the Best Fandom Forever award will give us yet another opportunity to honor these most passionate fandoms."

If you can't make it out to San Diego, don't worry. You'll be able to check out all of the festivities when the mtvU Fandom Awards air on Sunday, July 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

In the mean time, head over to FandomAwards.MTV.com to start voting!
