Stephenie Meyer Recalls When Kristen And Rob Became Bella And Edward

'The first scene I saw was in the forest ... it was pretty amazing,' 'Twilight' author tells MTV News.

As excited as we are for the pending release of "Breaking Dawn - Part 2," the reality of it being the end of the beloved film franchise also has us feeling a little sad and anxious.

Thankfully, we still have a couple more weeks to bask in the pre-release excitement before being overwhelmed with sadness -- two weeks full of exclusive MTV News interviews with the cast and "Twilight Saga" creator Stephenie Meyer.

Lucky for us, Meyer dropped by MTV First: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" last week, and we were able to ask her to share some memories about her involvement with the films, specifically with its three shining stars: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.

Speaking to her first impressions of seeing the actors in their now-famous roles as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black, Meyer revealed that she was only ever privy to one screen test, so she had to wait until filming was in full swing to see the actors in character.

"I didn't get to see the screen tests with any of them except for Taylor for 'New Moon,' and I do remember that, because it was really good," Meyer recalled. "[Director] Chris Weitz sent it to me, and I thought, 'Oh, Taylor, wow!' You were pretty good too, Kristen."

"We were really gunning for him though," Stewart said of her support for [article id="1626538"]Lautner, who came very close to being replaced[/article] by another actor.

"The first time I saw these other two in character was on camera, and that was really fun," Meyer said of Stewart and Pattinson. "I think the first scene I saw was in the forest with the 'How old are you?' [scene]. That was the first thing I saw. It was pretty amazing."

The only subject left up in the air is whether this really is the end of "Twilight" for everyone involved. When asked for her opinion on whether Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner have definitely played their "Twilight" characters for the last time, Meyer didn't have a definitive answer.

"I don't know what the answer to that question is," she said.

Don't forget to cast your vote in MTV News' epic Twi-Fight Saga. Only eight characters remain in the battle for the title of #1 "Twilight" character!
