Chalk it up to the "seven-year itch." Heidi Klum and Seal have confirmed they are separating after rumors of their split reached a fever pitch over the weekend.

"While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate," Klum said in a statement to People.

"We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart. This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition." The statement continues, "We thank our family, friends, and fans for their kind words of support. And for our children's sake, we appreciate you respecting our privacy."

In the days leading up to the confirmation, the most telling hint that there was trouble in paradise came in a post from the singer. "The End," he tweeted on Friday. Klum attended the January 15 [article id="1677344"]Golden Globes[/article] without her husband by her side. The duo was spotted together on a Christmas vacation to Aspen.

The usually very public couple married in May 2005 after meeting in 2003, and they were frequently were seen side by side on the red carpet. They also kept up a tradition of annual vow renewals. The couple have four children: Leni, 7 (Klum's daughter with a previous partner), Henry, 6, Johan, 5, and Lou, 2.

The split has nothing to do with infidelity, according to a source who told TMZ that "it was a long time in coming." The source added that Klum's busy career may have also contributed to the separation.
