Deadmau5 Collaborator Sofi Toufa Talks Miami Music Week

'Let's just say there's going to be holograms involved,' singer promises of gig with deadmau5.

"Wait, I'm performing where?" Imagine [article id="1651261"]Sofi Toufa[/article]'s shock last year when her friend and colleague deadmau5 forgot to mention to her that the little gig she was about to play was actually in front of 100,000 crazed fans at Miami's Ultra Music Festival.

"Joel [deadmau5] asked me to perform ['Sofi Needs a Ladder'], and I thought we were playing at a club," she told MTV News. "He didn't even really tell me the details until we got to soundcheck and I'm like, 'Wait! Um, so what are we doing here?' He's like, 'I'm headlining this festival.' And I'm like, 'OK, cool, thanks. Good to know!' "

Sofi's certainly a little more prepared for this year's show, where she'll again take the stage alongside deadmau5 to a sold-out crowd on the second night of the now three-day

">Miami Music Week event.

"This year, I'm kind of mentally prepared for it, and I'm excited that people know the tracks already," she said, adding that she's got some pretty wild attire to compete with deadmau5's visuals. "Let's just say there's going to be holograms involved, and I'm working with this awesome designer, Brian Lichtenberg, in downtown L.A. We're just kind of playing off each other's ideas and he's putting everything together, so it'll be good."

Holograms, you say? We had to ask for some clarification on this one, as we were admittedly confused; we all know that anyone near a deadmau5 show tends to pull out all of the stops.

"I'm [actually] going to be a hologram," she said. "You know how we do.

I've got to keep up with Joel's Mau5head! I mean, come on! He's coming up with his LEDs and crazy lights. I can't just be wearing jeans!"

In addition to this intriguing wardrobe mystery, Sofi has a busy week lined up in Miami. Not only will she be bouncing around town performing with boyfriend Tommy Lee's Project Blue Book Tour along with Skrillex, DJ Aero and Porter Robinson, but she'll be debuting her brand-new track with Mau5trap signee Moguai, "Beat of the Drum," at the Mau5trap Label Party on Saturday night at the Fontainebleau's Arkadia Nightclub.

"We're both from Germany, so that collaboration just sort of happened because of our backgrounds," Sofi said. "It all happened over the Internet, so it's going to be like a blind date. We're meeting for the first time and we're performing together for the first time!"
