Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz Welcome Baby

'Both parents and baby are doing great,' a rep for the stars tells MTV News.

It's a good week to be Javier Bardem. On Tuesday the "Biutiful" star found out he was [article id="1656582"]nominated for an Academy Award[/article], and now comes news that he and his Oscar-winning wife, Penélope Cruz, have welcomed their first child.

"Penelope and Javier welcomed their first son into their family last week," a rep for the couple told MTV News in a statement. "Both parents and baby are doing great."

[article id="1643613"]Bardem and Cruz married[/article] in July 2010 after knowing each other for nearly 20 years. They revealed that they were expecting a bundle of joy several months later, in September, when [article id="1648195"]Bardem confirmed the rumors[/article] to the press without discussing any more details.

On Tuesday, while he gave no hint about the baby news, Bardem, who previously won an Oscar for his work in "No Country for Old Men," released a lengthy statement about his latest Oscar nod. "I am truly honored for this nomination," [article id="1656632"]Bardem said[/article] in a statement. "And deeply thankful to the Academy members for their trust and support. Also to all of those who showed their support to my work in 'Biutiful' I express my heartfelt gratitude. I am very happy for Alejandro [González-Iñárritu] and everyone who has made possible the special movie we made together. It's really a huge honor to have been nominated in a non-English speaking performance and in the name of all my colleagues in Spain and mine I want to show my gratitude to the Academy for support and a recognition in this nomination for the movie 'Biutiful.' "
