'Star Trek' Stars Past And Present Talk Reboot On 'Spoilers'

'I think it's going to blow people away,' actress Zoe Saldana says of new film.

Forget about photon torpedoes, Vulcan neck-pinches, and phasers set to stun: According to the cast of the new [movie id="305755"]"Star Trek,"[/movie] the greatest weapon belonging to the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise is the accomplished filmmaker behind their camera.

"Hey, MTV," greeted [movieperson id="325559"]Zachary Quinto[/movieperson] during a special intro that he taped for our "Spoilers" audience. "Here's an exclusive look at the film, and our amazing director J.J. Abrams."

The 90-second clip was unveiled alongside new footage from [movie id="369697"]"Land of the Lost,"[/movie] the upcoming sequels to [movie id="369059"]"Transformers"[/movie] and "Harry Potter" and the entirety of Zack Snyder's [movie id="302856"]"Watchmen."[/movie] Former space traveler Wil Wheaton was also in attendance to give us his thoughts on the newest members of his "Trek" family.

As for the clip itself, the slickly produced footage employs many of the shots from the recent "Trek" trailers and Super Bowl ad to give us a peek at the journey of young Captain James T. Kirk ([movieperson id="343087"]Chris Pine[/movieperson]). "When they asked me to be involved with 'Star Trek,' I realized it was an opportunity to do everything I love in one movie," explained "Lost" creator and [movie id="362118"]"Cloverfield"[/movie] producer Abrams.

Spliced between never-before-seen footage from behind the camera, castmembers offered their thoughts on Abrams' daring attempt to reboot one of pop culture's greatest franchises. "J.J. is like that 10-year-old kid who is making movies in his backyard," Pine marveled, backed up by new Sulu [movieperson id="190230"]John Cho[/movieperson]: "We saw about a minute of the film cut together, and it was unbelievable. We were so excited."

The clip gives fans a quick glimpse at many of the film's most thrilling moments, from Kirk's barroom brawl to outer-space battles to a lightning-fast skydiving scene. "It's an emotional roller coaster, along with the special effects," [movieperson id="242567"]Zoe Saldana[/movieperson] remarked, whose Uhura can be seen getting steamy with Kirk. "I think it's going to blow people away."

At the end of the clip, Eric Bana's evil alien Nero delivers the creepy promise: "The wait is over." If only that were the case. But until May 8 finally rolls around, at least we have this new "Star Trek" clip to help convince us that Abrams' new film will indeed live long and prosper.
