Man Charged With Murder For Beating Death At Korn Concert

Michael Scott Axley charged in beating death of concertgoer at July 30 concert.

Atlanta police arrested 24-year-old Michael Scott Axley on Monday night and charged him with murder in the beating death of Andrew Richardson, who suffered a fatal brain injury at the July 30 date of Korn's Family Values Tour.

Atlanta PD spokesperson Marion Lee said Axley was taken in without incident after officials received tips from witnesses who saw the altercation and knew Axley. "They turned the information in to police and did the right thing," Lee said. At press time, no information was available on any prior arrest record for Axley or when he is due in court.

According to police and eyewitness accounts from Richardson's friends, Axley and Richardson got into an argument during the concert and Axley allegedly punched Richardson, sending him crashing to the concrete and causing a fatal brain injury. Richardson died two days later (see [article id="1537547"]"Man Beaten At Korn Concert Dies"[/article]).

Korn offered their condolences the day after Richardson's death and encouraged fans to come forward to offer information to police about the incident, which they said happened during a set by the Deftones (see [article id="1537743"]"Korn Ask Witnesses To Come Forward Following Fan Death "[/article]). "All the bands on the Family Values Tour offer their sincerest condolences and prayers to the family of 30-year-old Andy Richardson," read the statement from the band.

Though initial reports stated that Richardson was beaten by two men, Lee said police are not seeking any other suspects at this time.
