George Lucas Guests On 'The O.C.,' Announces Two 'Star Wars' Series
The ultimate object of fan geekdom will make a pilgrimage to TV's biggest fan geek show on May 12 when "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" director George Lucas drops in on "The O.C." a week before the movie opens.
According to StarWars.com, Lucas will guest star as himself on the episode, in which Summer (Rachel Bilson) makes Zach (Michael Cassidy) and Seth (Adam Brody) decide which one of them gets to take her to Harbor High's prom. But when Lucas expresses interest in Seth's graphic novel, he is forced to choose between taking Summer to the prom and dinner with Lucas.
Lucas made a rare appearance at a "Star Wars" fan convention over the weekend in Indianapolis for "Star Wars Celebration III," holding three Q&A sessions with fans, during which he dropped tantalizing news about what's next for the franchise.
Among the projects he's working on is a live-action TV series based on "Star Wars" that will likely not focus on the main characters from the movies. The unnamed series isn't expected to hit screens for at least a year and will be set between "Sith" and the original "Star Wars."
"We want to write all the stories for the entire first season all at once," Lucas said at the convention, which was attended by more than 30,000 fans. "I'm going to get it started, and hire the show runners and all of that, then I'll probably step away."
The other TV project is a half-hour
Lucas reiterated that he has no plans to do any more "Star Wars" movies, as the original plan was to begin with the birth of Darth Vader/ Anakin Skywalker and end with his death.
The director also said that a fourth "Indiana Jones" film is "definitely in the works," but gave no timetable on when that might begin filming.
