Melissa Etheridge, who announced earlier this month that she's been diagnosed with breast cancer, has undergone surgery and is currently recovering at home.

Etheridge's prognosis is "excellent" after undergoing a lumpectomy last weekend for a lump she discovered during a self-examination, her publicist Marcel Pariseau said in a statement on Thursday.

"Melissa and her doctor are deciding the next course of treatment," Pariseau said.

"I'm taking all of this one day at a time and spending time with the ones I love," Etheridge said. "I want to thank everyone for their outpouring of concern and affection."
