Usher, Outkast, Kanye Top American Music Awards Nominees
Exclamations left their mark on this year's American Music Awards nominations. "Yeah!" heartthrob Usher leads the pack with four nods, while "Hey Ya!" duo Outkast follow with three.
Kanye West is also up for a trio of trophies, while Jessica Simpson, Norah Jones, Prince, Alicia Keys and Jay-Z each earned two nominations apiece. Nominees for the November 14 show were announced on Tuesday by Dick Clark, Kelly Clarkson and Nick Lachey. Last year's host, Jimmy Kimmel, will return for this year's presentation, which will be broadcast live on ABC from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
The main awards are divided into four categories -- Pop/Rock, Soul/R&B, Rap/Hip-Hop and Country -- with awards given for Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Album and Favorite Band, Duo or Group. Single awards are given for Favorite Artist in Alternative Music, Latin Music, Adult Contemporary and Contemporary Inspirational.
Nominees were compiled from data supplied by the trade publication Radio & Records as well as album-sales trackers SoundScan, and winners will be selected via polls conducted by National Family Opinion Inc.
Last year's Pop/Rock winners included Kid Rock, who won for Favorite Male Artist; Jennifer Lopez, who was awarded Favorite Female Artist; and Justin Timberlake's Justified, which garnered the Favorite Album honor. In Rap/Hip-Hop, 50 Cent won for Favorite Male Artist while Missy Elliott took home the award for Favorite Female Artist.
