Mr. T, Jewel To Appear On 'Nick & Jessica Variety Hour'

Thankfully only one of them will be doing any singing.

Jessica Simpson will duet with Jewel and Kenny Rogers and perform her new single in an upcoming variety-hour special for ABC. Oh, and her husband gets a song too.

"The Nick & Jessica Variety Hour," airing April 11, will feature three Simpson performances, along with Nick Lachey and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds tag-teaming on the Stevie Wonder favorite "For Once in My Life."

Simpson and Jewel will sing the latter's breakthrough hit, "Who Will Save Your Soul," while she and Rogers will take on "Islands in the Stream," a tune written by the Bee Gees that Rogers recorded with Dolly Parton. Jessica will also perform her cover of Berlin's "Take My Breath Away" (see [article id="1485735"]"Jessica Simpson Goes From 'Top Gun' To Loved One With 'Breath' "[/article]).

Along with music, the show will feature comedy sketches, including one with Mr. T. Another skit will find the "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica" stars dropping in on another famous couple filming a variety show, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. And Lachey's hometown hero, Cincinnati Reds baseball star Johnny Bench, will teach the couple how to hit like a hall of famer.

"The Nick & Jessica Variety Hour" is being produced by Jessica's father, Joe Simpson, who also produces "Newlyweds," and Joel Gallen, the longtime MTV Movie Awards producer who has also produced several Super Bowl halftime shows.

Along with the variety show, both Lachey and Simpson are developing sitcoms for ABC (see [article id="1484624"]"Nick Lachey Signs Deal That'll Put Even More Cameras On Him"[/article] and [article id="1480285"]"Jessica Simpson Dreams Of Jeannie Role, But Sitcom Comes First"[/article]).

Meanwhile, MTV released details last week about "Ashlee," a reality series based on Jessica's sister and "7th Heaven" star Ashlee Simpson (see [article id="1479980"]"Ashlee Simpson Cuts LP And Tries Reality TV, But She's No Jessica Clone"[/article]). Six episodes following her attempt to launch a music career will air this summer.
