N.E.R.D. Go Back To The Future In First Fly Or Die Video

Neptunes members play own instruments on alter-ego rock band's second album.

When not inventing beats for artists such as Jay-Z and Kelis, the Neptunes have been in the studio over the last few months putting finishing touches on a new album by their rock alter egos, N.E.R.D. Back in band mode, they're ready to drop "She Likes to Move," the first single from Fly or Die, due March 9.

The video for their breezy, up-tempo ode to the female form was shot this past weekend by veteran director Dave Meyers, who has helmed imaginative clips for Missy Elliott and Outkast, among others. The director has described it as having a the feel of "old-school rock and roll," like the "old Queen days."

N.E.R.D.'s members -- Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo from the Neptunes, plus vocalist Shay -- are featured in three settings recalling a retro, James Bond-like vision of the future. One scene finds N.E.R.D. in a spaceship resembling a bodacious butt.

N.E.R.D. recently described their upcoming album as having more classic pop flourishes than their debut, In Search Of ... (see [article id="1480969"]"N.E.R.D. Step Up Their Game On Fly Or Die, Reminisce About Teen Years"[/article]). One significant change from their previous album is the absence of Minneapolis funk band Spymob, who backed N.E.R.D. in the studio and onstage.

Pharrell and Chad play nearly all the instruments on the album themselves with the addition of guests such as Ahmir Thompson, a.k.a. ?uestlove of the Roots, who was drumming for the N.E.R.D. album last week in the band's Virginia Beach, Virginia, hometown.
