Guarini May Tour With Kelly Clarkson After Dropping Pop-Soul Debut

'American Idol' runner-up also co-starring in movie with show's champ.

Perhaps he took in too much of Simon Cowell's criticism, because Justin Guarini has humble goals for someone who nearly won the inaugural "American Idol" search.

"I want [my album] to do well so I can get to a second one," the singer said recently on the set of his movie debut, "From Justin to Kelly."

If the success of "American Idol" is any indication, Guarini's solo debut, due in May or June, should have no problems flying off the shelves.

Justin will get a litmus test of sorts in April when the "From Justin to Kelly" musical hits theaters and the soundtrack hits stores (see [article id="1470189"]"Kelly Clarkson Dispels Dating Rumors, Clears Up Movie Plot"[/article]).

"We're doing all original songs [for the movie], except for the finale song, which is a remake of 'That's the Way (I Like It)' by KC and the Sunshine Band," he said excitedly. ([article id="1470191"]Click to see photos on the set.[/article])

Guarini's still-untitled album is a work in progress, and the curly-haired Philadelphia native hopes to co-write most of its songs.

"It's gonna be a little soul, gonna be a little pop in there. It's just gonna be eclectic, but it's gonna have focus," Justin said. "I can tell you that much."

After the soundtrack and album are released, Guarini plans to spend the summer touring, possibly with "From Justin to Kelly" co-star and "American Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson.

In the meantime, his eyes are glued to this season's show. "When I watch it I'm [wishing I could tell the contestants], 'I'm sorry! I'm sorry.' I went through it, you know" he said, laughing at the memories. "It's cool, though. It makes for good TV."
