The man who took his stage name from a mass-murder mastermind and a movie star is set to score the remake of a serial-killer horror flick.

Marilyn Manson will compose and record background music for "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," a retelling of the 1974 Tobe Hooper cult classic about a chainsaw-wielding madman and his rural family of cannibals.

The new "Chainsaw" began principal photography in July under the direction of Marcus Nispel, who has made videos for Shaggy, C&C Music Factory and the Spice Girls. The movie is being produced by director Michael Bay ("Pearl Harbor," "Armageddon"), whose slick popcorn-blockbuster sensibility runs in sharp contrast to the gritty, almost snuff-film feel of the original picture.

Among the young actors lining up to be victims are Eric Balfour ("Six Feet Under"), Jonathan Tucker ("The Virgin Suicides") and "7th Heaven"'s Jessica Biel. Marilyn Manson had positive things to say about Biel's latest movie, "The Rules of Attraction," in a recent journal entry on his Web site.

"Congratulations to ['Rules' director] Roger [Avary] for making fun of the people that we all hate, for p---ing in Dawson's Creek," he wrote.

Manson, whose last album was called Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death), is no stranger to Tinseltown. He recently unveiled a set of watercolors in Hollywood (see [article id="1457704"]"Marilyn Manson Brings 'Ass-Stabbing Fun' To Fore At Gallery Exhibit"[/article]) and shot scenes for "True Romance" director Tony Scott's "Beat the Devil," which co-stars Gary Oldman ("Bram Stoker's Dracula") and singer James Brown.

Manson has a role in "Party Monster," a forthcoming flick about a real-life murder in the New York club scene, starring Macaulay Culkin ("Home Alone") and Seth Green ("Knockaround Guys"). He also appeared in the 1999 teen flick "Jawbreaker" alongside then-girlfriend Rose McGowan.

On the musical end, in addition to scoring "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," in the coming months Manson plans to release The Golden Age of Grotesque, his band's sixth album and first since parting with longtime bassist Twiggy Ramirez (see [article id="1454584"]"Marilyn Manson Splits With Bassist Twiggy Ramirez"[/article]) as well as a new DVD.
