Rancid, NOFX Cover Each Other For Split Release

Track listing under wraps until album drops early next year.

Punk-rock mainstays Rancid and NOFX have teamed up for a special tribute ... to each other.

Each band will cover six of the other group's songs for the third volume in BYO Records' Split Series.

NOFX are in the studio now, and Rancid will enter in November, according to BYO. Both bands are keeping their song choices a secret until the album is released early next year.

BYO's Split Series Volume II featured Swingin' Utters and Youth Brigade sharing album space, while the first edition featured Leatherface and Hot Water Music.

Rancid are also slated to take part in a tribute album for late punk legend Joey Ramone. The band has not decided what song it will record, according to an Epitaph Records publicist.

The San Francisco Bay Area group, which followed fellow punks Green Day to fame in the mid-'90s with hits like "Salvation" and "Ruby Soho," spent the summer on the Vans Warped Tour (see [article id="1444753"]"Warped Tour Opener: Rancid, Pennywise, Shabby Sound, Trashed Goodie Bags"[/article]).
