Britney Spears To Debut New Single At Video Music Awards

J. Lo, Ja Rule, Staind also added to roster for 18th annual show.

Britney Spears will debut "I'm a Slave 4 U," the lead single from her upcoming third album, at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards next month.

Jennifer Lopez, Ja Rule and Staind have also been added to the performance roster for the 18th annual awards show, to be held September 6, the network announced Wednesday (August 15).

Spears, who delivered a memorable striptease performance at last year's VMAs (see [article id="1428580"]"Britney, Eminem, 'NSYNC Get Wild, Weird For VMA Sets"[/article]), will perform "I'm a Slave 4 U," from her as-yet-untitled album, scheduled for release November 6. The song was written and produced by the Neptunes, who've also worked with Spears' labelmates 'NSYNC, as well as Ludacris and Jay-Z.

All of the newly added performers are up for Video Music Awards. Lopez racked up two nominations for "Love Don't Cost a Thing," while Spears, Staind and Ja Rule received one nod apiece for the clips "Stronger," "It's Been Awhile," and "Put It on Me," respectively.

The show's performance roster already features Missy Elliott, Alicia Keys, 'NSYNC and U2. The show will be broadcast live from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York (see [article id="1445865"]" 'NSYNC, Missy Elliott To Perform At Video Music Awards"[/article]).

Presenters who'll dole out Moonmen to the lucky winners include Aaliyah, Macy Gray, Jewel, Nelly, Shakira, Shaquille O'Neal, Mark Wahlberg, Christopher Walken, racecar driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. and "Saturday Night Live" funnymen Will Ferrell and Jimmy Fallon.

Comedian Jamie Foxx, who stars in the TV series "The Jamie Foxx Show," will serve as this year's VMA host.

Catch all the sizzlin', star-packed VMA action direct from Miami on August 28. MTV News' preshow kicks things off at 6:30 p.m. ET/PT, followed by big show at 8 p.m.
