LOS ANGELES — Missy Elliott's new single, "One Minute Man," may sound like a pretty harsh dis, but it's actually hip-hop sex therapy, she insists.

"This record is for all the guys who are minute men," she said Sunday. "We need to find a way to stop you from being minute men. If you gotta think about what you doin' tomorrow, whether it's cut the grass, what you gotta cook, whatever. ... I'm here to help you along with that."

Elliott and Ludacris, who raps on the track, shot a video for the song with director David Meyers (Britney Spears, Kid Rock) in Los Angeles over the weekend. Set in a hotel, the clip shows the "behind-closed-doors side" of Elliott, she said. "This record is very sexy, so it makes me have to be sexy."

But one of her favorite scenes sounds more comical than sexy. "This guy's waiting for me to get on the bed, and he's baby-oiling himself down," she said. "And just when he thinks I'm gonna jump on the bed, I unscrew my head and start dancin' with my head off."

Following "Get Ur Freak On," "One Minute Man" is the second single from Elliott's forthcoming album, Miss E ... So Addictive, due May 15. In addition to Ludacris, the LP features guest appearances by Jay-Z, Method Man, Redman, Da Brat, Timbaland, Busta Rhymes, Eve and Ginuwine. A hidden track called "Higher Ground" features gospel artists Yolanda Adams and Mary Mary.

For the first time, Elliott does more singing than rapping on the album, which spans everything from R&B to techno, house and hip-hop styles.

Elliott said the album is "a lot more bright, danceful and colorful" than 1999's Da Real World.

"The last album was pretty much dark," she said. "It was real tense because I had a point to prove, because Supa Dupa Fly (Elliott's debut) did so well. It was almost like I had to come back and make the point. This one's more fun."

Elliott, who has been building a roster of artists on her own label, Gold-Mind Inc., recently teamed with Nelly Furtado on a remix of "Get Ur Freak On" for the "Tomb Raider" soundtrack, due June 5.

"I didn't know who she was at first, and I saw her on a video," Elliott said of Furtado. "I was like, 'Man, she's so dope — who's this girl?' ... When I got into the studio, she was amazing. To my surprise, she was like, 'I love your music' and started singing some songs I had recorded."

Elliott said she and Timbaland may do some work on Britney Spears' next album. Also on the horizon for Elliott is the May 3 Online Hip-Hop Awards in New York, where she'll be recognized for her efforts to combat domestic violence.

"For so long I witnessed my mother [be a victim] of domestic violence, from as long as I can remember up until 18," she said. "To be honored for something like that, I'm grateful."
