U2 Meets The Simpsons

October 22 [16:00 EDT] -- U2 took a break from the PopMart tour this past weekend to go into a Los Angeles recording studio and tape its contribution to the long-running saga that is "The Simpsons.

Drummer Larry Mullen, Jr., was M.I.A., but Adam Clayton, Bono and Edge were in fine form during their visit to the mythical town of Springfield: turns out that within the band are some serious Simpsons' fans.

As we previously reported, the episode, tentatively titled "Trash of the Titans," finds Simpson patriarch Homer joining the Edge and Larry Mullen Jr. at Moe's Tavern after Bono bores them all to tears with an ecological sermon.

In addition to singing a little

ditty and imparting dry wit to line readings, Bono found time to confront an inner demon as well.

"I, like may people of my generation, find the voice of my father quite scary. Homer has that, I think, effect on everyone," [800k QuickTime] Bono said.

U2 returns to the U.S. October 29, and Bono can't wait.

"It's a time when rock n' roll is so dull and so brown, and we're just flying our lemon right through it" [700k QuickTime].

The U2 episode of "The Simpsons" is scheduled to air around May.
