Joan Osborne Radio Spots Targeted By Anti-Abortion Activists

After recording a series of public service announcements for the pro-choice organization Planned Parenthood, singer Joan Osborne has drawn the ire of the anti-abortion group Rock for Life, who are calling for a boycott of Osborne's concerts and records.

As part of a joint venture with the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Osborne recorded the 30-seconds radio spots that were slated to run from last Friday through Tuesday, November 3 in four major radio markets -- including Los Angeles and New York.

A statement from Rock for Life scolded the vocalist for her participation in the project, referring to her as a "one-hit wonder." Osborne, a member of the Planned Parenthood Board of Advisors, recorded the pro-choice announcements while on a break from wrapping up work on the follow-up to her 1995 debut, "Relish."

As we previously reported (see [article id="1432957"]"Joan Osborne Readies New Magazine, New Album"[/article]), Osborne had been recording her new album

with the help of Cracker frontman David Lowery -- who also lent a hand to the sessions for the new Counting Crows album, both of which are due out by spring of next year.
