O'Connor's Virgin Mary Causes A Stir

October 14 [10:00 EDT] -- Sinead O'Connor is back to doing what she does best: making music and angering the Catholic Church.

The Irish singer, who released a new EP earlier this year, assumes the controversial role of the Virgin Mary in a new movie called "The Butcher Boy" from director Neil Jordan who also shot "The Crying Game" and "Interview With The Vampire.

As you may have already deduced, O'Connor's Virgin Mary is a far cry from the image most have of the figure: O'Connor's is a foul-mouthed Virgin Mary who appears in a teenager's vision and advocates murder.

No word yet from the Vatican, but with the completed film just starting to get screenings in the U.K., the Irish Catholic Church has asked parishioners to stay away from what it calls a "cheap" movie.

There's no word yet on a U.S. release date.

O'Connor brought her knack for causing a sensation among Catholics to the States in 1992 when she ripped up a photo of the Pope on "Saturday

Night Live" and urged viewers to "fight the real enemy.
