Metallica Set To Premiere New Video, Taps Akerlund For Follow-Up

Metallica was supposed to be part of the mad fray of mega acts and superstars releasing new albums yesterday, but the band's new double-record of cover tunes, "Garage Inc.," just missed its deadline at the pressing plant and won't be out until next week.

The 27-song set includes the entire "Garage Days Re-Revisited EP," which has been out of print for almost 10 years, and finds Metallica paying homage to artists ranging from Bob Seger and Nick Cave to Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult.

The first single from the album will be the band's version of Seger's "Turn the Page," and "Ray of Light" director Jonas Akerlund has completed the disturbing video, which features porn star Ginger Lynn as a single mother trying to give up her life as a stripper.

The band was apparently so pleased with the clip that they've asked Akerlund to direct the video for the planned second single from "Garage Inc.," a cover of Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey in a Jar," which will be shot this week on location

in New York.
