Madonna To Launch Maverick Latin Division

Madonna's Maverick Recording Company will be attempting to tap into the burgeoning Latin music market by launching a Latin music division, according to "The Hollywood Reporter.

Maverick's new division will have offices in Miami Beach and work closely with the staff at the national department of the Maverick imprint as well as WEA Latina, the Latin division of Maverick's distributor, the Warner/Elektra/Atlantic conglomerate.

To help the new label identify the next Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, or Shakira and sign him or her to deals before rival labels do, Maverick has brought in Bruno Del Granado to serve as President.

A 16-year music industry veteran who helped launch MTV Latin America, Granado will also serve as liaison between the new Maverick spin-off's national A&R department, marketing, and promotions staff, and their counterparts at Maverick proper and WEA.

Madonna told "The Hollywood Reporter," "and I've always been inspired by the passion and spirit of Latin music.

The singer is currently expecting her second child, fathered by "Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels" director Guy Ritchie, who was recently arrested for assaulting a 20-year-old man in front of the pregnant singer's home in London's Kensington section (See [article id="1431558"]"Madonna's Director Beau Arrested In London"[/article]).
