Spice Girls, Third Eye Blind, Elton John Top Year-End Charts

December 18 [12:30 EDT] -- The end of the year is still two weeks away, but the folks at "Billboard" have already compiled their year end charts with the Spice Girls, Elton John, and Third Eye Blind coming out on top.

Despite a good deal of recent press about the potential end of Spice-mania, 1997 was cemented as the year of all things Spice as the Girls snagged the number one spot on the year-end album sales chart with their debut "Spice." The pop outfit's debut managed to move more units this year than entries by No Doubt (who wound up at number two), Jewel (number five), and the Notorious B.I.G. (number eight). Hanson, Tupac, Bush, Puff Daddy, the Wallflowers, Erykah Badu, and BLACKstreet also made the year-end top 20.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Elton John's "Candle In The Wind 1997" tops "Billboard's" year-end singles chart. The biggest selling single in history topped entries by Jewel (whose "You

Were Meant For Me/Foolish Games" came in at number two) and Puff Daddy, who landed two songs in the year-end top five ("I'll Be Missing You" and "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down").

The modern rock singles chart was dominated by Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Life" this year, as the track topped Sugar Ray's "Fly" and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones' "The Impression That I Get." Further down the chart, Sublime managed to land two singles on the year-end chart with "Santeria" (at number nine) and "Wrong Way" (number ten).
