Garbage To Open For Scottish Parliament

In one of the odder bills to cross our desks, Garbage will be playing a command performance at the opening of the Scottish Parliament on July 1.

Britain's Dot Music reports that the band will be playing for the concert's honorary guest, the Queen of England. The performance will be staged at Edinburgh's Princes Street Gardens. Also on the bill is a classical act and the perfunctory traditional Scottish music.

Garbage is not exactly a Scots institution; while singer Shirley Manson is from Edinburgh, the rest of the band hails from Wisconsin.

One Brit band that won't be playing for the Queen is the Manic Street Preachers. The group was invited to attend the opening of the Welsh Assembly late last month and declined the honor with statements detailing its distaste for the monarchy.
