Bobby Brown Sentenced To Additional Jail Time

A Florida judge has sentenced singer Bobby Brown to an additional 36 days in a Broward County Jail during a hearing on Monday in which Brown pleaded guilty to violating his probation on a DUI conviction from 1998.

Following the hearing, Brown admitted that he was an alcoholic and a drug addict, but was hopeful that he could pull his life together and get back to working on his music career, according to "The Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel.

Judge Leonard Feiner could have sentenced Brown up to 90 days for the two violations, which included refusing to take a urine test, but only sentenced him to 75 days, 39 of which he has already served.

Brown is now expected to be released from jail on July 18.

The judge was also apparently upset that the singer had yet to tape anti-drug and alcohol TV public service announcements that Brown had agreed to as part of the 1998 conviction, which stemmed from Brown's DUI arrest in Hollywood, Florida in August

Monday's court hearing was attended by Brown's mother, Carole, and his brother Tommy, although Brown's wife, Whitney Houston, was not on hand.
