Marilyn Manson, David Bowie, Elliott Smith Among Supporters For Transsexual Broadway Play

"Hedwig and the Angry Inch" remains one of the hottest tickets in the New York theater world, and now there's word that the hard rocking off-Broadway musical will soon be made into a major motion picture.

The musical tells the funny story of a German-American transsexual rock diva named Hedwig who becomes, in her words, an "internationally ignored song stylist." Hedwig is further humiliated after undergoing a botched operation that leaves her with an "angry inch" in a rather delicate place. Hedwig then takes to the stage to express her outrage and vitriol via a fierce style of rock and roll that evokes early '70s musical stylings of Iggy Pop and Lou Reed.

MTV's Kurt Loder caught up with "Hedwig" writer-actor John Cameron Mitchell and composer Stephen Trask and asked them to rattle off some of the celebs they've seen in the audience at the show.

[article id="1440483"]"Well, who knows really,"[/article] Mitchell said.

[article id="1440483"]"Did Marilyn come back and say, 'Gee, you're doing this better than I do,'"[/article] Loder inquired.

Mitchell and Trask are currently hard at work on a screenplay for "Hedwig," and Atlantic Records has just released the official cast album, which features such songs as "Random Number Generation," "The Long Grift" and "Exquisite Corpse.
