Wyclef, De La Soul, Black Eyed Peas Set For Campus Invasion

Next month, Wyclef Jean, De La Soul, and Black Eyed Peas are going back to college.

The hip-hop visionaries are teaming up for this year's edition of MTV's Campus Invasion tour. A final itinerary has yet to be lined up, but the trek gets rolling on October 1 and will hit campuses across the country through mid-November.

[article id="1439781"]"I'm the king of the colleges,"[/article] Wyclef told MTV News' John Norris on Monday. [article id="1439781"]"There's not a college that I haven't invaded. MTV is going to get the most craziest footage. There ain't nothing like a bunch of college kids -- they're stressed out, and they need a concert, so we're going to bring it to them." For 'Clef, the outing will give him his first extensive touring behind his second solo effort, "The Ecleftic - 2 Sides II A Book," which hits stores this week. The album is the follow-up to 'Clef's 1997 solo debut, "The Carnival," and

once again the sometime Fugee is finding plenty of critical praise.

"Basically, I've been writing songs for everybody from Whitney Houston, Carlos Santana, everybody, but my grass roots are The Fugees," Wyclef said. "What I wanted to do with 'Ecleftic' is to touch base once again. I wanted to go back to my hip-hop formula, but bring a whole lot of music with it. So this is the next level of Wyclef." [RealAudio]

You can catch Wyclef on that "next level" on the road with the Campus Invasion tour, and you can hear more from him in our MTV News Online feature, "Wyclef Jean: Mad Scientist."
