Archers Of Loaf Frontman Returns With Crooked Fingers

His days with the well-loved alt-noise quartet Archers Of Loaf behind him, Eric Bachmann is moving on with his new project, Crooked Fingers.

Comprised of the bespectacled frontman along with onetime Man... Or Astro-man? member Brian Causey (who played guitar on the Archers' last tour), Crooked Fingers released its first, self-titled album on Tuesday and has lined up a string of dates on the East Coast and in the Midwest.

Crooked Fingers finds Bachmann settling in a territory suggesting Nick Drake by way of Tom Waits, setting this group apart from his previous, somewhat jazz-inflected solo project, Barry Black (whose first album in 1995 featured guest appearances by Ben Folds along with other members of the Chapel Hill in-crowd).

For those feeling nostalgic for the Archers, Alias Records is currently preparing a live album of the band's last show at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, North Carolina in December 1998. The label hopes to have the album out in June of this

year.
