Star-Packed Run-D.M.C. Album Due In February

Long-delayed comeback disc features Kid Rock, Fred Durst, Everlast.

After a year-long delay, Run-D.M.C.'s star-studded comeback album, Crown Royal, will hit stores on February 13, according to Arista Records.

The disc includes appearances by Kid Rock, Everlast, Method Man, Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst and others.

Crown Royal's first single will be "Rock Show," a rap-rock track co-written and produced by Third Eye Blind singer Stephan Jenkins, who also sings the song's chorus. Jenkins and Run-D.M.C. are preparing to shoot a video for the song with director Dave Meyers (Britney Spears, Hanson), according to Arista.

The song, which also features new Guns N' Roses drummer Bryan "Brain" Mantia (formerly with Primus), combines lo-fi, distorted guitar with samples from Run-D.M.C. classics and new vocals from Run and D.M.C.

Among the other notable guests on the album are Sugar Ray, Mobb Deep's Prodigy, Jermaine Dupri and Jagged Edge, who previously included Run on a remix of their hit "Let's Get Married." Jagged Edge add a lush R&B feel to the Crown Royal track "Let's Stay Together (Together Forever)," which uses the chorus of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together."

Another familiar chorus appears on "Take the Money and Run," which is based on Steve Miller's classic-rock radio staple of the same name. Run and D.M.C. rap a rewritten version of Miller's verses over the original song's guitar riff and drumbeat, while Everlast sings the hook.

"The School of Old," a song produced by Kid Rock, who also raps on the track, pays homage to such guitar-driven Run-D.M.C. classics as "King of Rock."

Durst's track, the uptempo "Them Girls," eschews rap-metal in favor of straightforward hip-hop, with Durst trading rhymes with Run and D.M.C.

"Queen's Day," meanwhile, an up-to-the-minute hip-hop track featuring Nas and Prodigy, celebrates the New York borough that spawned those rappers and Run-D.M.C.

The release of Crown Royal was delayed after Kid Rock and Durst's managers declined to have their tracks released as singles. Those tracks were originally intended to be the album's lead-off singles.

The new LP is the first from the veteran rappers since 1993's Down With the King. Run-D.M.C., who are among the most influential acts in the history of hip-hop, released their self-titled debut album in 1984.
