Grandaddy, the Donnas, Arab Strap and Jets to Brazil top the list of underground and emerging artists performing Oct. 1922 throughout New York as part of the 20th CMJ MusicFest.
The conference draws about 1,000 bands to the city, and performances will be held at more than 50 clubs, including Irving Plaza and Brownies. The concerts accompany the four-day Music Marathon, held at the New York Hilton and Towers, which features speeches, panel discussions and music showcases from labels such as Matador Records and K Records.
CMJ Network publishes the trade magazine CMJ New Music Report, compiles college radio airplay charts and focuses on emerging music in a variety of genres.
Besides rock music, this festival features dance and electronic artists such as BT and DJ Hurricane. Other planned performers include Broadcast, Hooverphonic, the Go-Betweens, Bratmobile, Lambchop, John Scofield, Ida, Pernice Brothers and variety-show entertainers Blue Man Group.
