Basement Jaxx's New EP Recorded Under Alias

The Camberwell EP is released by Banana Krew, on duo's Atlantic Jaxx label.

Basement Jaxx have released a new EP under the alias Banana Krew.

The Camberwell EP, which arrived in U.S. stores as an import on their Atlantic Jaxx label two weeks ago, features four new tracks by the acclaimed house duo, Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe: "I Live in Camberwell," "Livin' Demo," "Hold Ya Lighta" and "Camberskank."

"It doesn't say 'Basement Jaxx' anywhere on it. But it's on their Atlantic Jaxx label, and they don't release other artists," Shawn Schwartz, a co-owner of the Brooklyn, N.Y., record store/café Halcyon, said of the album. "And it's got the Basement Jaxx logo on it."

The record, which is named for the duo's neighborhood in South London, is available only as an import, Schwartz said, and is not the first Jaxx record to be released under an alias.

"They have released 15 singles [on Atlantic Jaxx]," Schwartz said. "So I know there's been some under other names. There's an [import] compilation out that has several of the singles on it."

A spokesperson at Astralwerks, Basement Jaxx's U.S. label, would not comment on the new record.

The 12-song Atlantic Jaxx Compilation was released in 1998 on the duo's longtime label and features early singles such as "Flylife" and "Be Free."

Meanwhile, the duo also claim the top spot on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart this week with "Bingo Bango" (RealAudio excerpt), the third release from their 1999 hit album Remedy.
