Taylor Swift 'Drawn In By Temptation,' Explains 'Trouble' Video Bad Boy

Reeve Carney tells MTV News that Swift is 'not a full bad girl' in the 'I Knew You Were Trouble' clip.

Taylor Swift isn't playing any version of Taylor Swift her fans have seen before in her dark [article id="1698888"]"I Knew You Were Trouble." video[/article]. In it, the singer gets swept up in a torrid love affair with a tattooed bad boy, and along the way, she kind of forgets who she is. Her ability to encapsulate that role gets rave reviews from the "Trouble" bad boy himself, Reeve Carney.

"It was a great acting piece for her, too," Carney told MTV News on Tuesday, just days after the video dropped to lots of fan frenzy. "I thought she was fantastic. I kept telling her, 'Man, you're such a natural. You've got to do more of this.' And I don't know if she was listening to me or not, but I think she definitely has a natural ability for sure."

The video follows a seemingly nice girl who falls prey to the wicked ways of [article id="1698897"]Carney's irresistible bad boy[/article]. And while she does dip her feet in the rebel pool, Carney says her character never quite goes all the way in.

"She's not a full bad girl," he explained. "She's someone who's drawn in by the temptation and the thrill of it all, but at the same time, she's halfway: She's got one foot in and one foot out. Whereas, I'm kind of both feet in, I guess. But there's enough charisma with the character that it kind of pulls her in."

So, does she pull off playing a semi-bad girl? "I think she did a fantastic job, and I think she looked good with the pink hair," Carney said. "I like her normal hair, but I thought it was cool a cool thing to experiment with."

The role was also a bit of a departure for Carney, who is known for playing a superhero as the lead in Broadway's "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark." He told us he appreciated exploring his dark side as well.

"It's fun for someone like me. I think, in order to pull something off as an actor, you have to have aspects to that character somewhere in your personality. But, it's nice. I think you get the chance to choose who you want to be every day, and that character isn't really who I choose to be every day," he explained. "But it's fun to have the release of getting to do that in an artistic way in a video, so it is really cool -- especially since I'm always playing the good guy onstage."

At the end of the day, agreeing to take some time out to star alongside Swift in the clip was an easy choice, Carney shared: "I was thrilled. I had no idea how she even became aware of me but when I met her, it turns out she had seen my video for this song called 'Love Me Chase Me' and was a fan of what I do," he said, adding that he was "grateful to have been on her radar."
