Alicia Keys’s ‘Holy War’ Is The Empowering Anthem We Need Right Now

‘Forgiveness is the only real revenge’

After delivering a rousing performance of it earlier this week at the 2016 Keep a Child Alive Black Ball, Alicia Keys has released the studio version of her latest track, "Holy War."

It's a free love anthem that cuts to the core of the practice she preaches, and its lyrics echo the remarks she made at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. Keys shared "Holy War" to mark the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, belting out the chorus of the track a cappella in one of the night's most moving and unexpected moments.

The song — which begs for understanding and compassion to win out over the destructive forces of hate, ignorance, violence, and greed — follows up her recent collaboration with A$AP Rocky, "Blended Family," and both tracks can be found on her forthcoming album, Here, out November 4.
